Each bear is idenitifed by a unique number - Isdimma is bear N26315. Her name, which means 'Ice fog', was chosen by friends of the Blijdorp Zoo in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

N23615 was captured for the first time this year in spring on Edgeøya in the eastern part of Svalbard, together with her yearling cub. Soon after the tagging she started to move northeast on the sea ice. She passed just north of Kong Karls Land, continued in a northeasterly direction past Victoria Island, and then further towards Franz Josef Land.

The family have not reached shore on Franz Josef Land, but turned north when approaching the archipelago and are currently at 82 degrees north and 48 degrees east. This female is what we call a pelagic bear, mainly spending her time out on the sea ice, moving great distances. It will be very interesting to follow her movements throughout summer, as the sea ice draws towards its minimum extent.
